Where do I fit in?

They don't want me to be their friend,

But they don't want to acknowledge that I'm an adult, either.

I have passed the "fun" phase,

And not reached the "mature" phase-

by their standards.

I don't want to sound childish,

or cranky,

or stupid.

I only wish that you could see who I have become,

NOT who I was.

Do you understand?

I try to do mature things,

because that's what I feel obligated to do,

To prove myself.

Not to be above you.

I can only be me,

but you don't know me,

so you can't see...
